 Golden Circle Iceland Tour

Iceland is a country full of geological contrasts best visible in the South where glacial cold and geothermal heat meet. We will drive throughout the Southwest and the Golden Circle Area by our 4×4 vehicles, where we will discover that the underground heat provides the energy for greenhouses and natural swimming pools. In the Southeast we will hike the largest glacier of Europe, Vatnajökull, and sail the glacier lagoon among huge icebergs; its wild countryside is the best place of the island to hunt for Northern Lights, and March is the very last chance to watch Aurora Borealis!

Furthermore, we will admire breathtaking waterfalls and amazing black sand beaches where, with a little luck, we might meet funny Puffin birds.

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be transferred to your centrally located hotel in Reykjavik. You will have some free time to enjoy a first glance of the capital before heading to enjoy your welcome dinner. Night in Reykjavik

Day 2 – Reykjavik and special home-cooked dinner

This morning you will enjoy a half day guided tour of Reykjavik city center. Afterwards, you will be transferred to the Perlan Museum Experience, an interactive exhibition on Iceland glaciers, the Northern Lights, and other natural insights of the island. we will organize an afternoon transfer to the Geothermal beach Nauthólsvík (just outside Reykjavik). You will have some time to rest before a special Icelandic dinner at a private home. Night in Reykjavik

Day 3 – Þingvellir, Geysir, and Gullfoss Waterfall

This morning you will leave Reykjavik and make a first stop in Þingvellir, the most important national park in Iceland, sitting over the fault line between the North American and the European tectonic plates. You can walk the line and see raised rock walls, waterfalls, and ruptures in the crust of the earth. Afterwards, you will proceed to Geysir to visit the natural phenomenon of this popular offspring then to Gullfoss Waterfall, the “Golden Falls”, Iceland’s most iconic waterfall and the tallest of Europe. You will enjoy breathtaking viewpoints along the way. Night in Vik

Day 4 – Reynisfjara Beach

This morning you will drive to Reynisfjara Beach, “the blackest sand beach of the world”, one of the most spectacular of Iceland. Rising out of the sand are amazing cliffs formed of basalt columns. Afterwards, you will proceed to Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon, one of the most spectacular natural gems of the country and for sure one of those places that you will probably never be able to pronounce correctly but it’s very difficult for Icelanders, too! Once here, you will go on a one-hour easy hike along the serpentine river of the canyon with spectacular viewpoint on Mogafoss waterfall and surroundings. In the afternoon you will reach Hofn, a charming fishing town. Night in Hofn

Day 5 – Skaftafell National Park

Today you will enjoy a guided tour at Skaftafell national park.  Here is where you can see the breathtaking range of natural forms that Iceland has to offer— from Iceland’s tallest mountain (Hvannadalshnjúkur) to its largest glacier (Vatnajökull) to some of its most impressive waterfalls (Svartifoss). You’ll for sure experience a place of untouched nature. The most breathtaking feature you will see today will undoubtedly be the naturally formed ice cave. You will be able to walk inside this dazzling structure to see the fantastic blue ice found within. Glacier equipment is included in the experience. Night in Hofn

Day 6 – Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

This morning you will enjoy a thrilling boat cruise where you will come face to face with giant icebergs! An amazing, guided experience on board of a rubber boat will take you to spectacular glacial scenery and incredibly peaceful places. Afterwards, you will drive to Diamond beach where the icebergs which fill the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon wash up on shore, creating a stark contrast with the volcanic black sand. This beautiful display makes it a favourite location for photographers and nature lovers. Wildlife enthusiasts also frequent the site as many seals call the beach home, and it is one of the best places in the country to see orcas from the shore. Afterwards, you will visit a local farmhouse where you will live the authentic countryside lifestyle of Icelanders and taste some local products. Night in Vik

Day 7 – Solheimasandur Plane Wreck, Kerid Volcano Lake, and Blue Lagoon

In 1973 a United States Navy DC plane ran out of fuel and crashed on the black beach at Sólheimasandur, in the South Coast of Iceland. Fortunately, everyone in that plane survived. The plane wreck is still visible, and you will stop there for a nice picture. The scenery of this white abandoned plane on the totally black sand is quite surreal and the landscape around feels like being on the set of a science fiction movie. En route to Kerid Lake, we will stop for a shot at Skogafoss and Kvernufoss waterfalls, a stunning waterfall complex set on different levels. You will then reach Kerid Volcano Lake, a volcanic crater lake formed about 6,500 years ago. Finally, you will have the chance to relax and bathe at the amazing Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa notable for its regenerative qualities being the water rich in silica and sulphur. Get your cocktail and immerse yourself in this magical atmosphere! Night in Grindavik

What Our Fellow Travelers Said

" Since 2014 I have worked and travelled on 4 different tours with Betta, they have all been amazing, all customized to what my group enjoys to do. I don’t have to tell her our preferences any more, they are just understood.

On each trip we are treated to special tours that you would not see with a large tour company. She personally makes each trip a pleasure and we all feel that we are with a family member when we get together with her. Can’t wait for our next trip."

" Having been on group trips to Northern & Southern Italy, Sicily, Portugal & Spain led by Benedetta, we can recommend her enthusiastically.

For our private trips, she made all our rail, air, private car & hotel arrangements, chosen based on the quality we requested; selected knowledgeable and informative guides to assist us at multiple locations; & stitched it all together into a cohesive itinerary from beginning to end. The trip was a delight. Besides her professional side, Benedetta is an upbeat “foodie” with a mind for fun, & she’s flexible, on the client’s side & doesn’t push an agenda. Finally, as we’ve traveled abroad, we’ve known she’s had our back should help be needed while away."

" Thank you One Life journey!!! My wife and I had a life time trip in Italy (from Sicily to Alba and its truffles) thanks to you. The level of service you provided was the highest. Your travel experience, knowledge, understanding and passion made the trip truly unforgettable. Can’t wait for next summer with other one."

"Betta was our Tour Manager on my trip to Croatia and Slovenia and I can’t say enough wonderful things about her! She was outstanding in every way – professional, prepared, passionate, friendly, approachable, and informative. Our journey was a stress-free experience and she made us feel completely safe and well taken care of throughout the entire trip.

Betta was very organized and a great manager of our schedule but was flexible and accommodating enough to balance the prescribed schedule against different things members of the group wanted to see or experience. She went out of her way to make sure we saw not only the tourist sites, but also several that were off the beaten track as well. Betta was always there for us if we had any questions, and the group engaged in many interesting conversations. You cannot go wrong if Betta is your Tour Manager!"

Karen, Chicago

"When traveling, you’ll need a generous amount of good humor, patience and flexibility while expecting the unexpected. There will always be a need to alter plans on the fly. The key to success when traveling is managing these usually stressful surprises. And this is where Betta shines. After three separate tours with Betta, I can cite numerous occasions where I saw her planning and attention to detail in evidence. Daily schedules were well communicated and, always with smiles, Betta kept the tour group together for our various comings and goings. However, Betta’s real talents were displayed when needed to improvise. More important than simply planning, Betta would easily “roll with the punches” when required or asked to deviate from her original plans. She could do this based on her intimate knowledge of several options she could utilize to meet the needs of the moment. Betta’s personality to be much more than pleasant."

Carl Robbins - USA

"Ray helped us organising our family vacation to Sardinia and it was amazing! It was everything we were looking for: great location, stunning seaside, closeness to the beach and comfortable and cozy hotel and also the food was to die for! Our expectations were definitely exceeded. We are going to contact One Life Journeys again for our next holiday!"

"Hi, my name is Bob, and my wife Elizabeth and I want to highly recommend Betta. We traveled with Betta as our tour director on two Italian tours. She is wonderful, always upbeat, and very professional, a pleasure to be with. An excellent communicator, Benedetta was always well prepared and very knowledgeable about the areas we visited.

Every day she provided us with extraordinary experiences. Betta was able to adjust the day’s schedule and activities to accommodate unforeseen circumstances. She also managed special dietary requests with patience. We both look forward to traveling with Betta again soon."
